What is Selah Mountain?

Selah is a term that can be found mostly in the Psalms and a few other places in the Bible. The name Selah first shows up as a reference in 2 Kings 14:7 to the high mountain fortress capital city of Edom known as Selah. The name means rock, fortress, or stronghold. The city was captured and its name was changed to Joktheel, meaning veneration of God, by Judah’s King Amaziah in acknowledgment of God’s help in taking the fortress.
Selah is most commonly used in the Psalms. It is a term that means to pause or suspend, as in to stop doing something. Since the Psalms were actually songs, it is referred to as a place where there is a pause in the music for a moment to think about the magnitude of what was sung.
With these concepts in mind, Selah Mountain is a reference to stopping for a moment and thinking upon the magnitude of the rock of our salvation, Jesus Christ. When we read the Scriptures and take time to pause and meditate upon Jesus as our unshakable rock, He guards our hearts and minds and gives us peace beyond all understanding

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness;
but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. ~
1 Corinthians 1:18
